Memorial Day Commemoration in Devendorf Park

On Monday, May 28, American Legion Post 512 and the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea will commemorate Memorial Day.  Believe Inn will definitely be there for the events, which include:

  • memorial day commemoration, devendorf parkRinging of the WWI Memorial Bell, located at Ocean and San Carlos, at 11:00 a.m.
  • Speeches by the mayor and various local dignitaries in Devendorf Park.
  • Color Guard presented by the Monterey High Junior Navy ROTC Cadets program.
  • Open House at American Legion Post 512, located on Dolores between 8th and 9th, after the ceremony.

For more information, please call American Legion Post 512 (831- 624-9941) or Cindi Lopez-Frincke, Community Services Assistant (831-620-2020).

How much do you know about Memorial Day?  Believe Inn was surprised to learn that this federal holiday, once known as Decoration Day, began after the Civil War as a memorial for Union soldiers who had died in the conflict.  During the war, ladies’ organizations and schoolchildren in the South had decorated Confederate graves in various cities.  Each region had its own date, although it was often in May.  In the 20th century, Memorial Day was broadened to honor all Americans serving in the U.S. Armed Forces who died in all wars.

Memorial Day has also been an occasion to remember our loved ones, regardless of whether they served in the military.  After 1968, when the holiday was moved from May 30 to the last Monday in May, Memorial Day became a long weekend devoted to family gatherings, fireworks, trips to the beach and swimming pools, and, of course, the Indy 500 Race.

Please join us on May 28 as we remember those who died in the cause of freedom.  If you have visitors in town for the holiday, Believe Inn Monterey and Carmel Hill Lodge are the perfect places for them to stay!  To find out about lodging and reservations, call 831-373-3252 or 1-888-551-4455.

Take Mom to Lunch or Dinner on Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day is fast approaching! Have you made your plans yet? We at Believe Inn have some suggestions on where to take Mom for her special day. Whether she prefers a champagne brunch or a swanky dinner, many restaurants in Monterey are ready to treat her in style. So have a look at our list and make your choice. Oh, and please make your reservations today to avoid disappointment!

mother's day celebration, mother's day party, mother's day luch

  • Stillwater Bar & Grill in Pebble Beach (831-625-8524) is one of our Monterey’s top seafood restaurants, and with good reason! Not only is the menu fantastic (the open-face lobster sandwich is one of Believe Inn’s secret indulgences), but the stunning views almost make you forget to eat. Almost.
  • Wickets Bistro at Bernardus Lodge (Carmel Valley; 831-658-3400) is a small European bistro featuring elegant cuisine in a casual setting. Maybe Mom would enjoy a duck confit pizzetta with caramelized torpedo onion and arugula? She will definitely love the garden, the source of the organic produce used in many of the dishes.
  • For comforting Mediterranean dishes and quirky specialties served in a rambling wooden structure, head to Fandango (Pacific Grove; 831-372-3456).  We at Believe Inn cannot resist their couscous Algerois with chunks of lamb flavored with North African spices.  Make sure you save room for dessert!
  • Rio Grill in Carmel (831-625-5436) is a cheerful place with marvelous Southwestern cuisine and a justly famous wine list. The smoked corn soup with prawn and chili will delight your palate, as will the scallops garnished with pea shoots and a slice of bacon. The servers are warm and hospitable will happily take a digital shot of your group for a memorable end to the meal.

We hope you’re now ready to spoil Mom. And remember, Believe Inn Monterey and Carmel Hill Lodge are great places for your out of town guests! Call us on 831-373-3252 or 1-888-551-4455 to make reservations.
